Field sales

Selling in person, at the customer's premises, by reps who spend most of their week on the road rather than at a desk.

How it differs from inside sales

Inside sales works from a desk — phone, email, video — with a CRM open all day. Field sales works from the car: visits, samples, handshakes, and relationships built over years. It's common wherever the product is technical, the orders recur, or the relationship is the product: distribution, industrial supplies, agriculture, consumer goods, construction materials.

Where the time goes

A field rep's week is visits, travel and everything around them: preparing, calling the office for information, writing up visits, sending follow-ups, and reporting to a manager. The admin tends to be done late — in the evening or on Friday — or not at all.

What changes with the right tools

The desk tools weren't built for the car. What works on the road is voice and WhatsApp: asking for a client's balance while driving, recapping a visit in thirty seconds, getting the weekly report on the phone.
